Michael S Smith for Brown Jordan
Introducing two exceptional collections envisioned by renowned interior designer Michael S. Smith exclusively for industry leader Brown Jordan.
Los Angeles, CA – April 15, 2016 –In a phenomenal collaboration between two of the design world’s most respected tastemakers, Brown Jordan, the leading manufacturer of top quality outdoor furnishings, will debut two extraordinary collections created by acclaimed Los Angeles-based designer Michael S. Smith. The inaugural lines—Arbre and Deia—represent two distinct points of view on gracious outdoor living, both filtered through the lens of Smith’s signature blend of classic European elan and tailored American modernism. The collections will debut at the High Point market in April, followed by launch events on the East and West Coasts in June.
“My work has always been about marrying high style with a kind of effortless ease and comfort attuned to the rhythms of contemporary life. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring that sensibility to the arena of outdoor furniture,” Smith says.
The Arbre collection revives the venerable faux bois style of garden furnishings mastered by French artisans in the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Smith has reinterpreted the traditional plasterwork technique in a wide-ranging line of metal furniture and accessories that evoke graceful vines and gnarled tree branches. Arbre includes a lounge chair, ottoman, bench, loveseat, sofa, étagère, planter, console, and a range of coffee and end tables. The seating pieces are available exclusively with Sunbrella cushions, and the tables feature Lily faux stone tops, exclusive to the Arbre line.
The Deia collection presents a vision of la dolce vita inspired by an enchanting Spanish village Smith discovered while traveling in Mallorca. Discreetly elegant, the line is characterized by signature hand-forged finials and chic modern lines with a hint of understated glamour, ideal for sophisticated alfresco leisure. Deia includes a lounge chair, sofa, and daybed—available exclusively with Sunbrella cushions—along with an étagère, planter, console, and end tables offered with glass or aluminum tops.
“Michael brings to the table an unparalleled design sensibility coupled with a deep understanding of Brown Jordan’s tradition of premier design, craftsmanship, and quality. With an amazing attention to detail, he distilled the essence of every form, every finish, every proportion, and every material,” said Steve Elton, Chief Brand Curator for Brown Jordan. “Together, we’ve created a collection that feels both timeless and of the moment. We could not be more excited about this partnership.”
